This week's newmusicmonday features Montréal's Land of Talk {MySp, Wikipedia, CBC Radio3}. Land of Talk has been around since 2005 fronted by Liz Powell {singer, guitarist}, who is originally from Guelph, Ontario. Their first EP, "Applause Cheer Boo Hiss" has a harder, more punk sound, but is still tuneful with engaging lyrics. Here's "Summer Special" from the EP::

and the grittier "Speak to Me Bones"::

The "Some Are Lakes" album {previews on Amazon.com} has a softer sound.  Here are videos for The Man Who Breaks Things (Dark Shuffle)", "Some Are Lakes", and "Young Bridge on QTV::

In October of 2009, they released a new 4-song EP, "Fun with Laughter." I'm a big fan of the song, "May You Never Know", which is available for free via download on the Saddle Creek Records site here.
"Fun And Laughter EP will be available in CD and digital formats. The CD version features screen printed art designed by the band in a special limited edition package and will only be available from CIMS indie retailers, landoftalk.com, saddle-creek.com, and at venues on the road."
A live video of the song from the Casbah in San Diego is here::

The Land of Talk has all releases and merch on their online store. I missed them when they played in Toronto last week, but I was wiped from several deadlines. Upcoming dates::
