Newmusicmonday #30 :: The Besnard Lakes

Image::  Besnard Lakes, kapetank

This week's newmusicmonday is Montréal band The Besnard Lakes {MySpace, Wikipedia, CBC-3}. If you like you music on the atmosphereic and shoegazey side, check out the tracks on the CBC3 or MySpace links. They did the score for Mark Ruffalo's film, Sympathy for Delicious. I recall hearing a track by them a while back, but only recently did I give them a good listen. They have three albums, "Volume 1", "The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse", and the forthcoming "The Besnard Lakes Are Roaring Night" {due out 9 March on Jagjaguwarpreorder w/autographed CD booklet}. Here's a link to their online store, which includes vinyl releases of 12" singles and Dark Horse.

This is an interesting animated video for "Devastation" from their last album, which follows the action::

A new single is out for "Albatross" {MP3 link}, which I thought was OK when I first heard it, but now I really like it.

For some reason, it reminds me a little of The Concretes à la "You Can't Hurry Love", but darker. Speaking of darker, here's a video for "For Agent 13"::

Upcoming tour dates are on their website, with only two Canadian dates on 11 March in Toronto at The Horseshoe and the CD release on 12 March at Il Motore in Montréal. After that, they're on to SXSW, the Fallon Show, and tourdates in the UK and Europe.

Here's a live performance of "Because Tonight" from May of 2007 at La Maroquinerie in Paris::

This track make me want to get a Nanaimo bar::
