newmusicmonday #37 :: Kids on TV

Image:: Kids on TV from kidsontv.biz

This week's late installment of newmusicmonday features Kids on TV {CBCr3, MySpace}. Over the weekend, I also blogged about Karyn Ellis, so do check her stuff out, as well. Torontonian Kids on TV mix genres with campy flair, as evident in the following videos::

There are quite a few full songs streamed on CBC Radio 3, which is a great introduction to their work and various remixes. Last September, they put out an EP, Shape Shifting Mutants, which has streamed samples on the link. The band cites Cabaret Voltaire, The Slits, and Devo as possible influences. Their soundbite samples and homage to 80s and 90s electronica have a distinct pop touch that defies sounding dated.

Here's an interview with the band on Wavelength on EyeWeeklyTV::

Unfortunately, there are no upcoming live shows, although they tweeted that a new 7" is forthcoming on 18 June.

Twitterversion:: #newmusicmonday blog features #Toronto "apocalyptically gay band" @kidsontv. Videos and links. @Prof_K
