newmusicmonday #88:: Jessica Jalbert

image:: Jessica Jalbert, CBCr3

Genrealt folk pop
BaseEdmonton, AB, Canada
labelOld Ugly Recording Company

Jessica Jalbert has a great voice that I came across rummaging the various corners of CBC Radio 3. You can read more on her on this photographer's blog with a Q&A. Take a listen to "Paris Green" on MySpace or CBCr3. Her sweet vocals are slowly enveloped by a wall of fuzzy guitars. Her cover of Françoise Hardy's "Berceuse" has a crispness to it, both her vocals and the guitarwork.

Her backing vocals on chillaxed downtempo Doug Hoyer's work showcases her talents, which well-complement the strings on "Oh, The Wind Will Blow"::

 Oh, The Wind Will Blow (ft. Jessica Jalbert) by Doug Hoyer

Here's a video from 2009 taken at Wunderbar Haufbräuhaus, which is on Whyte Avenue in the heart of Edmonton—Strathcona {it's just a coincidence that I just blogged about the riding & stumbled across Jalbert}, close to Linda Duncan's headquarters. The song was written for Dakota Fanning.

She also has a cameo in this HighWireFilms video::
